The marquee AL bats lit up the Target Field scoreboard early, but most of the MLB All-Stars struggled at the plate throughout the night. I’m still baffled that Derek Jeter was not named the game’s Most Valuable Player. Making his farewell appearance in the Midsummer Classic, Jeter scored the first run of the evening and batted a perfect 2 for 2 on the night. I believe an opportunity was missed to honor the retiring Yankee veteran with yet another well deserved trophy.
How did Derek Jeter’s performance grade out compared to that of the game’s MVP Mike Trout?
Here are the numbers from last night’s exhibition: 2014 MLB All Star Game.
Please take a moment to contrast my Enhanced Statistical Rating (ESR) against the traditional four baseball numbers of Batting Average (AVG), On Base Percentage (OBP), Slugging Percentage (SLG), and On Base + Slugging (OPS).
